The Coffeehouse Movement

Throughout history, coffeehouses were gathering places for men (and occasionally women) to discuss important issues in their lives. They were also places to organize. Far from the modern day "espresso bar" of over-priced frappuccinos and Starbucks on every corner, coffeehouses used to be community meeting places. In fact, in the 1700s, London coffeehouses were such hotbeds of political discussion and free speech that they were called "the seats of English liberty.*"

The Advocates' Coffeehouse will be one such community meeting place to share ideas about social media and organize effective advocacy campaigns. Here, we can examine together the different online tools available and distinguish why some campaigns have astonishing rallying effects while others sink from social consciousness without a trace.
